Proper Ventilation for the Kitchen Range is Important

When designing a kitchen there are areas that may be “optional” but venting the stove is not one of them. I recently attended training at Vent-a-Hood, where I learned that properly ventilating the stove/range is very important for several reasons. Not only can the moisture, grease, odors, and heat from cooking cause damage to the kitchen but it can lead to poor indoor air quality.
Proper ventilation can be achieved by:
- Venting to the outdoors – this the only way to ensure the maximum elimination of cooking contaminants
- Installing a large canopy
- Making sure the right blower unit is installed to match the CFM of the cooking equipment
- Using the correct size ductwork and ensuring it is installed properly
I would highly recommend you to visit the Better Homes and Gardens Kitchen and Bath Ideas website to learn more about kitchen hoods. Here is a link to a really good article on the different types of ventilation options .
I would love to hear what ventilation option you chose and why!
