Kitchen and bath showrooms are a powerful tool when it comes to remodeling your home.  Our client for this project was drawn into our showroom by a backsplash tile we have on display, which lead to an in home consultation for us to better understand their home décor and uncover the issues motivating them to remodel

The home was very traditional with faux stone walls for accent treatment throughout and their kitchen had a white laminate door.  Needless to say – this was not the style or feeling the homeowner was going for!  In addition, they wanted to create another work area for their three growing boys that did not interfere with “mom’s” cooking center.

Before Remodel

Another interesting component of the remodel was that the homeowners were actually willing to design around the water cooler in the kitchen due to the importance of clean filtered water.  The woman also wanted the kitchen to have a lot of detail but didn’t have a clear picture as to where we could go with that.

We could not alter the space, so to visually enlarge the area we brought the cabinets up to the ceiling, by building up the crown treatment 12” – this takes your eye up to the ceiling making the area seem bigger than it was before.

Adding Space without Actually Adding Space

  • A water filtration system was incorporated into the sink – eliminating the large water cooler
  • Added more counter space by wrapping cabinets around the wall where the water cooler once stood
  • Created an alcove in one base cabinet to accommodate the pet bowls – so they would not be out in the open
  • In the island it was important for the client to have a dish drawer, so we inserted a dish peg organizer

The Details are in the Finish

  • Added detail trim on the 12” build up of crown
  • Incorporated corbels on the island
  • Utilized several different finishes that coordinated with the colors throughout the home
  • Added a second microwave for the “kids” cooking station, compactor for recycling and a double bin trash cabinet

The client was very involved in the process which helped the space come together, and obviously they installed the back splash tile they loved so much!
